What the Stadium Course Closure at TPC Prestancia Is Actually About

Drive along Tournament Players Club Drive this month and the Stadium Course looks less like a golf course and more like a construction site with excellent drainage. Sod has gone down on holes 1 through 9. The bunkers on hole 4 are finished. Hole 18, the course's signature closer over water, has its bunkers and green surrounds fully shaped. If you have lived in Prestancia long enough to know this course by its doglegs and its wind, the sight of exposed sand where fairway used to be probably reads as routine maintenance. A course ages, a course gets redone.
That reading misses what is actually happening. TPC Prestancia is not simply refreshing turf. Its owner, Heritage Golf Group, is running two projects at once this year, one on the ground and one on the membership roster, and the two are connected in ways that will change who you are playing behind by the time the Stadium Course reopens.
The Stadium Course closed for renovation on April 1, 2026, and is scheduled to stay closed through October 31, confirmed in TPC's own 2026 Partner Course Rates document. That is a seven-month window, longer than a typical summer maintenance closure, which tells you this is a full rebuild rather than an overseed. In an event the club called Roots and Refreshments, Director of Agronomy Joe Samulak walked members through what the rebuild would involve and what to expect as it progressed, a level of access that suggests the club expected members to have questions about a closure this long.

The course was inspired by TPC Sawgrass and designed by Ron Garl with PGA Tour player Mike Souchak as consultant, playing 6,927 yards from the back tees. It is worth remembering this is not the club's first reinvestment. TPC Prestancia's own golf page notes a multi-million-dollar enhancement completed in the 2022 season. What is happening now, three years later, is a second and more targeted rebuild aimed squarely at the Stadium layout.
Prestancia's golf membership is built around 36 holes, the Stadium Course and the Players Course, formerly the Country Club of Sarasota, designed by Robert Von Hagge. For seven months this year, that 36-hole footprint has effectively been cut in half. Every outside round, every member round, every guest round is landing on one course instead of two.
In a normal Sarasota summer, both courses already close on Mondays from June 1 through October 31 as a matter of course maintenance rhythm. This year, with the Stadium fully shut, the Players Course is the only one absorbing the traffic that would typically be split. If your tee times have felt harder to book, or the Players Course has felt busier than a typical July, that is the mechanical reason.
Here is the part most residents have not connected yet. In April 2026, GSP Development, the Chicago firm building the 18-story Saravela condominium tower on North Tamiami Trail in downtown Sarasota, announced a partnership with Heritage Golf Group. Saravela's 282 condominiums and 11 townhomes will come with a complimentary one-year sports membership to TPC Prestancia, roughly 10 miles from the tower, covering dining, social events, tennis, pickleball, padel, a fitness center, and pool access, with no initiation fee or monthly dues during that first year.
Heritage's Chief Operating Officer Jim Oliver framed the deal as an opportunity to extend the club's reach well past Palmer Ranch. "We're excited to align with Saravela and introduce our 75,000-plus members to the opportunity to own in Sarasota," Oliver said in the announcement.
That partnership did not appear out of nowhere. Heritage Golf Group, a Virginia-based operator running close to 50 golf and lifestyle clubs across 14 states, acquired and merged the sports club adjacent to TPC Prestancia in 2025, a move that gave the club the racquet and wellness infrastructure it now offers as a standalone sports membership, separate from a golf membership. Without that 2025 merger, there would be no sports-only membership tier to offer a downtown condo buyer in the first place. The Stadium Course rebuild and the Saravela partnership are two halves of the same capital plan: rebuild the golf product members already pay for, and simultaneously open a membership lane that does not require living inside Prestancia's gates at all.
None of this changes who owns a home in Prestancia. The neighborhood itself remains a gated enclave of roughly 497 single-family estate homes, maintenance-free villas, and multi-level condominiums built around the club, a scale and structure you can review on the Prestancia neighborhood page. But it does change who you might find at the next member mixer or across the net at a Saturday pickleball match. A Saravela sports member has never set foot in Palmer Ranch until they book their first visit. By the time the Stadium Course reopens after October 31, some share of the people using the fitness center, the pool, and the dining room will have joined the club before they ever considered joining the neighborhood.
That is not a downside. A larger membership base helps justify continued capital investment, the kind that just paid for nine holes of new sod and a rebuilt closing hole. Club social life has not paused during the closure either. Events like the New Member Mixer and the Heritage Plus+ 9 and Dine, billed as Par-Tee in Paradise, have continued running through the summer even with half the golf product offline, which suggests the club is treating this year as a growth year rather than a maintenance year.
If you golf at Prestancia, the practical takeaway is straightforward. Expect the Stadium Course back in play around the start of high season this fall, expect the Players Course to stay the busier of the two through October, and expect the roster you tee off with this winter to include some new faces who arrived by way of a downtown tower rather than a Palmer Ranch cul-de-sac.
